Music Monday: Make it Work

What a month November has been.

I celebrated another birthday, went on a cruise, and spent quality time with family during the Thanksgiving holiday.

I’m tired, but I’m grateful.

My travels aren’t done, but I was thinking (per my usualπŸ€”) and realized I was overdue for a post.

I’m still enjoying being unplugged from the world for the most part and enjoying those intentional connections that sustain rather than drain.

That being said, whether you are married or single I’m sure we can all think of a time when holiday traveling got the best of us.

I had a few of those days. I was tired of shuffling, being in transit and living away from my creature comforts and for a homebody like me that is a recipe for a foul mood — despite the excitement of travel and the joy of a planned holiday.

We were recapping events yesterday evening and when my husboo asked how I felt about the series of events I honestly said, “We had some rough moments.”

He quickly replied, “Yeah, but everybody does. The important thing is that we got through them.” πŸ™ŒπŸΎπŸ™πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸ½

I’m telling you. We can disagree about some things, but that’s why I love my dude.😍 His perspective is always SO REFRESHING.

As much as I needed to acknowledge that I had been a grouch, I needed him to point out that we still had a good time, got through those sore spots, and did all of that TOGETHER.

These are the moments when I can so easily recognize how much God has given me a gift in my spouse. We balance each other in so many ways.

That’s also why I appreciate Ecclesiastes 4:12 in a special way.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

It also brought to mind another song that I wanted to share.

Yeah, it’s by Ne-Yo. πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

It’s called “Make it Work.” I don’t like to share unofficial video links, but it’s all that I could find ☹

I think it covers a lot of my sentiment this week and how I find myself feeling more and more as our 5th wedding anniversary approaches.

Life can be crazy and hectic and challenging and full of disappointments, but Team B Henry is good, because we’re focused on each other. That’s key to making marriage work. My favorite lyric (of several) in this particular song is,

This can only be as good as we both make it
Yes, sometimes it’s gonna hurt (sometimes it’s gonna hurt)
We can be as happy as we want to be girl
But we gotta make it work
We gotta make it work…

I think we often forget that our happiness starts within and, in a relationship, it starts within your “relationship bubble.”

People, places and things may try to impact or influence your bubble but they can’t do so unless you allow them to.

I know I’m happiest when I keep my focus on protecting my bubble, maintaining peace and friendship with my spouse, and letting the other non factors be just what they are — NON FACTORS.

Make It Work

Ooh uh ooh,ooh uh ooh yeah yeah
You understand me
At least you say you do
Lately that’s enough for me
Looking for perfect
Surrounded by artificial
You’re the closest thing to real I’ve seen πŸ’―

Sure, everyone has their problems
Thats a given (#FACTS)
Yours are the easiest to tolerate πŸ’―
This wasn’t what we was wanting
How we’re living
But let’s take this good enough and turn it to greatπŸ™ŒπŸΎ
Baby understand…

This can only be as good as we both make it
Yes, sometimes it’s gonna hurt (sometimes it’s gonna hurt)
We can be as happy as we want to be girl
But we gotta make it work
We gotta make it work…

Sometimes I love you
More than you’ll ever know
Other times you get on my nerves πŸ’― (hey)
That’s just reality
No, it can’t always be
Kisses, hugs, and beautiful wordsπŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½

You was looking for your prince
What you found (What you found)

Is a pauper with potential
And no, I’m nowhere near perfect..NO
But I’m around (but I’m around)
Girl, time and patience is essentialπŸ‘ŒπŸΎ
Baby realize…

This can only be as good as we both make it
Yes, sometimes it’s gonna hurt (sometimes it’s gonna hurt)
We can be as happy as we want to be girl
But we gotta make it work
We gotta make it work…

Thick and thin, (ooh)
The bad outweighs the good sometimes πŸ’―
That doesn’t mean we’re ‘spose to give it up
My problems are yours, and yours are mine

This can only be as good as we both make it
Yes, sometimes it’s gonna hurt (sometimes it’s gonna hurt)
We can be as happy as we want to be girl
But we gotta make it work
We gotta make it work..

Ay oh ay oh oh
We gotta make it work…
Ay oh ay oh oh
We gotta make it work…
Ay oh ay oh oh
We gotta make it work…
Ay oh ay oh oh
